Infertility

The heartbreak of infertility can shake you to your very core. The strain of infertility is far from uncommon - approximately 1 in 8 couples will struggle with infertility at some point in their lifetime. Therapy can help in a number of ways. Therapy can help you to overcome your fears and insecurities, to cope with stress, improve relationships, and to come up with a plan of action.  Therapy can also give you the mental strength to continue treatment. One study found that fertility patients in therapy were significantly less likely to drop out of fertility treatments prematurely than those not in therapy.

Donor Recipient Workshops

I offer monthly workshops providing individuals and couples with information and opportunities to explore and process feelings related to donor conception. A major focus is placed on deciding whether (and how) to talk to your child about donor conception. The content covered in these workshops is similar to that covered in individual consultations. An individual consultation will allow you to talk more about your specific family situation and personal fears, whereas the workshop setting will allow you to process your feelings while also meeting others going through simliar family building decisions. Click here for more information about the next scheduled workshop.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Emotional and practical issues in selecting a donor

  • Special considerations in raising a donor conceived child

  • Whether and how to disclose to your future child

  • What kids want to know about the donors

  • Anonymity considerations

  • The latest research on families created through egg or sperm donation
